"A SPACE OF RESIGNATION: THE ARTWORK OF JAMIE ADAMS, BRETT DAVIS, and ROB KATKOWSKI"

"A Space of Resignation" will display a cross section of the discordance utilized by Brett Davis, Jamie Adams, and Robert Katkowski in their respective images. These three artists employ an ambiguity of specific elements in paint. The results vary from lulling introspection to quiet malevolence. It is work that calls for the viewer to resign himself to the strange and palpable space, the uncertain surface, and the inchoate relationships between figures.

The canvases, very large and small, are comfortable yet extremely intense on the gallery walls. Hues of brilliant colors, chunks of paint, movement, and so much texture come together to complete these brilliant pieces.

Exhibits invite the viewer to contruct and deconstruct artwork. If you like puzzles, A Space of Resignation also includes three dimensional puzzle pieces that have been constructed to let the viewer physically accomplish this task. Their craftmanship and beauty is undeniable. Call for an appointment, come during gallery hours, or during any event. This exhibit should not be missed!

She is author of the short story collection, The Famous & The Anonymous (Better Non Sequitur, 2004) and editor of the theme-based fiction anthology, Consumed: Women on Excess (So New Media, 2005). "THE MONOPRINT: AN EXPLORATION OF TECHNIQUE - ARTWORK BY ERIC WHITE"

July 16, 8pm, $4

The fourth installment of The New Yinzers TNY Presents is bursting at the seams. This time around we feature Kevin Finn, Kurt Garrison, Kristofer Collins, and Carlos Pena.

KEVIN FINN: Kevin Finn is a poet from Pittsburgh, PA. He is currently pursuing an MFA at Carlow University, and working on his first book, Visible Extinction. Finn has been published in Tiger's Eye Journal, and the Pittsburgh City Paper. Also a singer-songwriter, Finn's Vessels has gained critical acclaim world wide. He lives with his wife, child and pet cat. www.kevinfinn.netwww.myspace.com/theinsectvoice

KURT GARRISON: Kurt likes to bang on stuff and yell into microphones for Workshop and The Plat Maps. A somewhat devoted skiier, he is one half of the The New Yinzer?s wildly irrelevant Indie Rocker vs. Classic Rocker. Kurt also enjoys fishing and has spent the last two and a half years pissing his life away on this utterly confounding story about juvenile delinquents and their importance in our society. He also enjoys asparagus on the grill.

KRISTOFER COLLINS: Kristofer Collins is the managing editor of The New Yinzer, an occasional book reviewer for The Post Gazette, and owner of Desolation Row CDs. A book of his poems entitled KING EVERYTHING was published in 2007 by Six Gallery Press. THE LITURGY OF STREETS is forthcoming from Six Gallery Press in 2008.

CARLOS PENA: Carlos Pena seeks to illuminate life's diversity and has found music to be his most effective means in this process. In doing so, he has learned to embrace the paradoxes and ambiguity which comprise our experience. Carlos takes a holistic approach to sound production on his instruments of choice (guitar, percussion, and piano) and emphasizes the role of improvisation within harmonic and rhythmic frameworks in his style of musical expression. Born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA, Carlos has been an instrumentalist and performer for most of his life, holds a masters degree in ethnomusicology, and additionally functions as a music librarian and researcher.

"SIGNS OF SURVIVAL: THE ART OF LIVING AFTER TRAUMA"

Most of us have been affected by trauma personally or through the experience of a loved one, friend or coworker. We survive terrorism, abusive family environments, poverty, rape, environmental decay, military service in active war zones, extreme health challenges, child abuse, and many other traumatic experiences.

This exhibit honors our survival, our journey after the trauma has occurred, and our inherent worth and dignity. It asks: How do we as individuals, family units, and communities survive traumatic events? How do we process our experience of trauma? How do we heal and build thriving relationships and lives after trauma?

Trauma survival has the power to unify us and provide common ground for communicating, healing and planning our future. Come and join the dialogue with many artists who answer these questions in unique and powerful ways. Experience their healing processes and lives after surviving traumatic events.
